C. elegans, an animal model for studying β2- microglobulin amyloidosis

Please note that the job is no longer active!

In this research project a new C.elegans strain

expressing the highly amyloidogenic natural

D76N β2-microglobulin variant will be prepared.

To bypass the extreme toxicity of the constitutive

expression of this protein, a strain with a

temperature dependent expression will be

generated. The physical effects of amyloid-related

toxicity on larval growth, worm motility and

survival will be monitored and quantified. After

its phenotypic characterization, this new strain

will constitute a unique platform for studying the

effects of different biological and chemical factors

on the deposition and toxicity of the

amyloidogenic protein.

The metabolic profile of this C.elegans strain will

be also investigated in comparison with the wild

type and other strains expressing different

isoforms of β2-microglobulin. The effect of the

exposure of worms to anti-amyloidogenic

compounds on the metabolic profile will be also

investigated.

Please note that the full description may be available in the national language since some job boards have their own publication policy. Thank you for your understanding!
