The activities of the Doctoral course are aimed at the training of professionals capable of developing in Physics, with the following goals:

Advanced knowledge in the structure of matter, the physics of soft matter and of complex systems, with a particular regard to theoretical, computational and experimental aspects

Advanced knowledge in the field of nuclear physics, with a regard mainly to theoretical and experimental aspects. The study of nuclear and sub-nuclear particles, plasma physics, particle accelerators and detection systems

Physics applied to the environment, the cultural heritage; medical physics and geophysics; spectroscopic techniques, on site analysis, modeling, risks and related legislation

The synthesis, diagnostics and modeling of nanomaterial behavior; quantum and non-linear optics phenomena in micro and nanostructures; energy applications; biotechnologies, optoelectronics, photonics and sensors

Eligibility criteria

QUALIFICATIONS(up to a maximum of 30 points/100)

Documents to be attached to the application in PDF format:

• Master, specialist or old system degree thesis;

• university career (examinations, graduation mark);

• any professional experience and other qualifications held by the applicant;

• research project drawn up by the applicant;

• curriculum vitae


Written and Oral Examination: (up to 40 points - minimum pass grades is 24 points)

The written examination consists of a paper proposed by the Committee to ascertain the knowledge, skills and attitudes for scientific research of candidates. The paper can be written in Italian or in English.

Oral examination (up to 30 points (minimum pass grades is 18 points)

It consists of an interview designed to assess the knowledge, skills, aptitude for scientific research, and the motivations of the candidates. The interview is designed to test the candidates' knowledge on topics relating to the educational and methodological trends of the Doctoral course and includes the formal presentation of the proposed research project. During the oral examination the knowledge of the English language will be tested.

Minimum overall rating to be considered eligible: 60 points.

The final list in order of merit will be published on the University’s

The candidates are admitted, on approval, to Courses according to their

position in the final ranking list until all positions for the Doctoral
