Quality of Institutions and Economic Inequality in the Cohesion Policy

Please note that the job is no longer active!

Cohesion Policy, though designed as the main instrument to reduce Europe's social and economic disparities, has been only partially analysed and conceived in terms of its impact on inequality issues. Moreover, recent studies show that quality of institutions is a crucial factor for the effectiveness of Cohesion Policy (Rodriguez-Pose, 2010, RegiosS, 2012). Thanks to newly developed measurements of governance (see Charron, Lapuente, Rothstein, 2013) the relationship between Cohesion Policy and regions' institutional quality, which can also be conceived as a goal per se of Cohesion Policy, can be further explored. The project activities will be carried on through a combination of a quantitative and qualitative approach: a comparative analysis of EU regions with similar institutional and economic traits, statistical analysis to assess the impact of Policy Cohesion on inequality and a mapping of Policy Cohesion best-practices in order to identify the drivers of institutional quality.

Please note that the full description may be available in the national language since some job boards have their own publication policy. Thank you for your understanding!
