Philological Approaches to Vernacular Aristotelian Texts in the Renaissance

Please note that the job is no longer active!

The project aims to investigate the various philological approaches involved in the vernacularization of the Aristotelian texts in the Renaissance. The greater part of Aristotelian literature has come to us through manuscripts and various forms of printed editions. Any investigation of vernacular Aristotelianism requires a systematic investigation of scholars’ philological activity in vernacularizing, that is the procedures in copying, emendations and other operations of textual criticism, and editions of a text, in order to assess the value of the vernacular Aristotelian texts. The task is to provide the description of the editing technique of the Aristotelian vernacular works. This study serves to establish whether humanists working on Aristotle in the vernacular were still textual scholars and critics, like fifteenth-century Latin humanists

Please note that the full description may be available in the national language since some job boards have their own publication policy. Thank you for your understanding!
