European Research Council funded fellowship The neural basis of visual imagery

Please note that the job is no longer active!

The overall goal of this project is to investigate the neural basis of visual imagery and the degree to which visual imagery can be used to re-activate silenced visual cortex in hemianopic participants. The specific goal of this part of the project is to examine which pathways are recruited during visual imagery, using MEG in combination with connectivity analyses as well as multivariate pattern analysis of fMRI data. Moreover, we aim to explore whether hemianopic patients share a similar pattern of activation in the intact and affected visual hemifield.

Therefore, the postdoc to be hired under this project is expected to (a) design, program, run, and analyze MEG and fMRI experiments using normal-sighted and hemianopic participants, and to(b) prepare manuscripts for publication in international peer-reviewed journals.

Please note that the full description may be available in the national language since some job boards have their own publication policy. Thank you for your understanding!

a)a Ph.D. in psychology, cognitive neuroscience or related discipline is requested, awarded by an Italian university or a foreign one and recognised as equivalent to the Italian qualification by the assessment committee for the sole purposes of this selection procedure;

b)excellent scientific and professional experience required to carry out the research described in article 1, i.e. documented experience (at least one published article on analysis of MEG or fMRI data);

c)appropriate experience (documented by at least one publication in a peer-reviewed journal) in cognitive neuroscience in the field of visual imagery and/or visual short term memory;

d)experience in running experiments involving clinical populations;

e)programming experience with Matlab and ability to carry out data analysis independently;

f)excellent English language skills

Selection process

The selection procedure will consist in verifying each candidate’s previous education, experience and approach to research, and in making a comparative assessment of all candidates’ research profiles, scientific/professional curricula and qualifications.
