The research, part of the PON SIGLOD project, is going to be aimed to the structural characterization of layered rocks in landfill sites lying persisting on carbonate areas and gypsiferous-clysh areas.
In particular, the research will focus on:
- qualitative and quantitative analysis of deformation mechanisms affecting carbonate and gypsiferous-clysh deposits and the possible interactions with petrophisical properties of the rocks (porosity, permeability), and the stratigraphic feature of the successions (mechanical stratigraphy), to characterize the fluid (water, pollutants) migration/storage mechanisms;
- analysis and modeling of the faults and shear zones architecture, and the study of their nucleation and growth processes, with the aim to understand how their characteristic elements (core zone, damage zone) act on the underground fluid flow.
