State-of-the art CFD codes have to be used to investigate aeroelastic devices to be exploited to harvest energy from the wind field. In the presence of wind, our device undergoes a flutter instability in the transverse direction similarly to a pitch-and-plunge motion. Recent results obtained by our team show that for a prototype having a size of orders of centimeters the extracted power was of the order of several mW . No efforts to optimize the system have been done yet. The investigation of this issue is the main concern of the present project. To be more specific, the candidate will work on CFD approaches for i) aeroelastic optimization and ii) different harvesting strategies. Competences in aeroelasticity and CFD codes are thus required.
