Analisi sperimentale e numerica del quench in nastri e bobine superconduttive ad alta temperatura critica

The aim of the project is the experimental and theoretical analysis of quench in different types of high critical temperature superconducting tapes and in coils wound with these tapes. The quench is the irreversible transition from the superconducting to the normal state caused by the local deposition of heat due to several possible perturbations. The minimum energy that determines this transition is referred as the Minimum Quench Energy (MQE). The research will assess the impact of the geometric parameters and of the physical properties of the constituent materials of the different superconducting tapes on their electro-thermal stability in response to thermal energy disturbances. The research work will include experimental activities concerning the measurement of MQE of superconducting tapes and coils and numerical simulations with a 2D finite element electro-thermal model of tapes and coils.
