Marie Curie Actions funded fellowship Marie Curie ITN - SASSYPOL - One Early Stage Researcher (PhD student) Fellowship on Hierarchical Self Assembly of Polymeric Soft Systems at the University of Cambridge

Please note that the job is no longer active!

One ESR (PhD) position available within the FP7 Marie Curie ITN ‘SASSYPOL’. Under the supervision of Prof Oren Scherman, the researcher will investigate the synthesis of polymeric scaffolds bearing guest molecules for CB binding, the preparation of hydrogels and characterisation of their rheological properties and structure and will evaluate the substance encapsulation and release properties of the hydrogels. The position also includes two secondments, tentatively in the groups of Prof Ludwik Leibler in ESPCI, Paris Tech, and Prof Wim Pyckhout-Hintzen at the Juelich Center for Neutron Research.

Research Fields

Chemistry - Molecular chemistry

Other costs

salary is determined based on country of research

Eligibility criteria

At the time of recruitment, the ESR must not have resided or carried out his/her main activity (work, studies, etc…) in the country of the research institution for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to his/her recruitment under the project. Compulsory national service and/or short stays such as holidays are not taken into account.

An eligible candidate will be selected based on scientific skill and relevance of research experience to the project, the expected impact of the proposed training on the ESR's career, and ability to meet the criteria regarding mobility and research experience described above.

The ESR, at the time of recruitment, has not yet been awarded the doctorate degree and is in the first 4 years (full-time equivalent) of his/her research career

Selection process

This is an equal opportunity position. Applicants MUST apply and be accepted to the University of Cambridge in order to be a part of the ITN.

The SASSYPOL training network involves institutions across Europe (10 academic and 2 in the private sector) which will train a new generation of highly skilled chemists in the production of novel functional soft systems and materials. The expertise of all partners encompasses supramolecular chemistry and dynamic self-assembly, but individual research competences are diverse focusing on molecularly defined nanostructures, liquid crystalline materials, hydrogen-bonded supramolecules, molecular systems based on host-guest interactions, and advanced modelling and characterisational techniques of polymeric and self-assembled materials.
The training program is aimed to improve theoretical, practical and complementary skills of the recruited ESRs. To this end, it includes state-of-the-art local training activities and network-wide courses and workshops as well as secondments in partner laboratories.

Candidates should send their CV to Dr. Lora Angelova (sassypol@ch.cam.ac.uk). Please include a cover letter outlining your specific qualifications, including contact information for at least two referees and indicate your preferred host group and willingness to be considered for other posts in the network.
