DEVELOPMENT OF NUCLEIC BASED NANODEVICES FOR THE DETECTION OF TUMOR BIOMARKERS

The overriding goal of this research project is to mimic Nature in the design of novel nucleic acid based nanodevices that detect cancer, provide detection-driven therapy, and monitor treatment efficacy. The candidate will engineer and optimize highly specific biomolecular DNA-based nanodevices that undergo binding-induced conformational changes upon target binding and, in doing so, signal the presence of the cancer marker or release a therapeutic cargo. Different therapeutic agents that includes aptamers, siRNA and DNA binders will be studied. Different cancer markers will be also taken in consideration including transcription Factors, RNA and DNA, Cell receptors (epitopes expressed on the surface of tumor cells) etc.

REQUIREMENTS Expertise in bioengineering, DNA sensors, cell imaging, synthetic biology, DNA/RNA aptamers, DNA computation, DNA nanodevices.
