CMOS arrays of SPAD single-photon detectors for 2D imaging and 3D depth-ranging, through single-photon time of flight measurements

Please note that the job is no longer active!

The candidate will conceive and develop novel arrays of SPAD (Single-Photon Avalanche Diode) in CMOS technology. Each array’s pixel will consist of the SPAD detector itself, plus the analog front-end electronics for biasing the detector above breakdown and for sensing the avalanche triggering due to the photon absorption, and the digital electronics for counting the detected photons (photon counting) and for measuring their time-of-flight (photon timing). Purpose of the research is to develop imagers able to acquire at high frame-rate both 2D, i.e. signal intensity, and 3D, i.e. depth-resolved, videos of objects in complex scenes.

The candidate will design and develop also the camera employing the developed microelectronic sensor, that will acquire the data through FPGA, microcontroller or DSP devices and that will perform data processing and display the movies and pictures on a remote computer.

Please note that the full description may be available in the national language since some job boards have their own publication policy. Thank you for your understanding!
