Politics, monetary iconography and imperial propaganda in the Byzantine world between the Thirteenth and Fourteenth centuries

Please note that the job is no longer active!

In the context of the study of Byzantine political ideology, the project aims at analysing the imperial propaganda as reflected on the monumental and numismatic iconography in the period stretching from the Thirteenth to Fourteenth centuries.
The candidate must have a deep knowledge of historiography on the issues of the project and undertake a systematic analysis of the numismatic, iconographic and textual sources of the period under question. It is therefore required a special competence in the field of Byzantine Civilization, in particular on numismatics and sigillography, as well as history and art-history. Moreover, it is necessary that the candidate has had significant research experiences in Italy and abroad, and that he/she has a direct knowledge of the most important Byzantine numismatic collections preserved in Italy and in other countries.
