Molecular mechanisms of stress response as regulators of cell growth processes

Please note that the job is no longer active!

Physical activity evokes the onset of a stress response, in which several stress-activated proteins are involved. Among these proteins there are the AMP Activated Protein Kinase (AMPK) and the SIRT1 deacetylase, that can mediate some of the beneficial effects of exercise on health, since they affect cellular processes whose disregulation is involved in the pathogenesis of several illness such as cancer, neurodegeneration, cardiovascular and metabolic pathologies. Recently, AMPK has been reported to modulate the activity of Ornithine Decarboxylase, the limiting enzyme in the biosynthesis of polyamines, that are natural polycations involved in all growth processes. The modulation of polyamine metabolism represents a powerful tool to regulate several processes implicated in cell growth and cell survival. Aim of this project is to study the link among AMPK, SIRT1 and polyamine metabolism during cell stress. This topic represents an unexplored research field.

Please note that the full description may be available in the national language since some job boards have their own publication policy. Thank you for your understanding!
