The present project aims at describing the bryophyte flora of the temporary ponds in Sardinia and also, it intends to examine the consistency and the composition of the spore bank.. The alternation of wet and dry phases gives rise to an environment with unique biodiversity for such ecosystems representing potentially suitable habitats for the settlement of bryophytes which play an ecological role in protecting the ground from erosion and excessive desiccation. The purpose of this research is to supervise the spatial distribution and the temporal dynamics of settlement of bryophytes, to analyze the spore bank as a reserve of plant biodiversity, to use the data collected for the implementation of a data-base of species and to verify the significant differences between temporary ponds in Sardinia through the use of statistical methods.
