3D reconstruction and localization with the Gaze Machine

Please note that the job is no longer active!

The Gaze Machine is both a wearable device and a model for coordinate acquisition of gaze and observed world data. The device, patented at Sapienza, Rome University, is unique in its character, because it allows to obtain coordinate 3D data while the subject is freely moving in a dynamic environment. The goal of this project is to study the point of regard, namely the point on the retina at which the rays coming from an object regarded directly are focused, in the 3D reconstructed scene so as to assess 3D saliency with respect to both egomotion and other objects motion. Most of the results in the literature on motion tracking, motion modelling and action recognition, are based on single objects motion. In order to extend motion modelling to several different motions it is necessary to account for motion saliency. This in the hypothesis that the human brain has solved the problem and therefore studying the way humans track 3D motion can help in providing an adequate 3D model.
