the Research focuses on the design, synthesis and characterization of highly conjugated, dipolar molecular donors pertaining to three classes of organic dyes already validated by the proponents as performing donors for OPV-BHJ cells: squaraines, diketopyrrolopyrrole and iso-diketopyrrolopyrroles. The applicant will work in parallel on the three classes of derivatives, as in principle all of them have potential to fulfill the project goals, eventually focusing on the class providing the best tradeoff between performances and synthetic accessibility. The applicant will completely characterize all the new derivatives in terms of chemical identity and purity and overall optoelectronic performances. He will also test the performances as Donors in a BHJ configuration of the most promising derivatives. Eventually, the applicant will proceed on the optimization of the deposition and post processing conditions for a representative example per class.
