We shall investigate through theory and simulation the structure and phase equilibria conditions of fluids composed of colloidal particles tethered with fragments of DNA. The interaction between the bases of DNA will be described in terms of “patchy” sites distributed along the DNAarms of the “center” nanoparticle.. Patches will interact in pairs so to mimic the basic adenine-thymine and guanine-cytosine coupling in the DNA. We shall employ the Reference Interaction Site Model (RISM) theory of liquids and a simplified version of it, the polymer-RISM( pRISM). The theory should signal the approach to gelation or to glassy phases , and an estimate of the liquid-vapor binodal. A pRISM study will be performed of the isotropic-nematic transition experimentally occurring for nano-DNA particles formed by a sequence of a few DNA bases.
