Pliny's scientific project and its reception. Toward an annotated edition of the Praefatio to the Naturalis Historia

Please note that the job is no longer active!

This project seeks to explore the study of Pliny the Elder’s Naturalis Historia as a source for literary representation of scientist from the classical antiquity to the Renaissance and the early modern era”.
The Praefatio to Naturalis Historia appears as the most important section of the entire work: Pliny defines and specifies here his intents, purposes and cultural preconditions, and here also appears the perception that the scientist has of himself. Hence the plans to prepare an annotated edition of the Preface, which at present is not adequately studied.
This research, which aims to tackle even the reception of certain topics of Latin scientific literature, will also help to enrich the database on the Classical Reception, designed by the Center for the Study of the Classical Reception, “La permanenza del classico” (Dipartimento di Filologia Classica e Italianistica).

Please note that the full description may be available in the national language since some job boards have their own publication policy. Thank you for your understanding!
