Sanitary selection and sanitation of Calabrian grapevine germplasm autochthonous

Please note that the job is no longer active!

Calabria has the ancient cultivation of native grapvines of high quality. Virus diseases can cause 80 - 100% reduced productivity, low sugar content in grapes and subsequently in wine, abnormal flavor profile and tannin content in the wine. The aim of the present research project is to identify grapevine virus-free clones through the sanitary selection, sanitation and sanitary certification. The virus-free clones will be obtained identifying healthy biotypes in the field; parallel the best selected biotypes will be recovered by heat therapy associated with the culture of meristematic apices (IVIA, Spain). The germplasm that detected virus-free and the one recovered will be sanitary certified giving the opportunity to establish excellent mother plants field, increasing the value of nursery products, with benefits for all wine industry as well as the control of viral diseases spread.
