Performance optimization of an image simulator to generate synthetic Mercury surface images

Please note that the job is no longer active!

As the planetary cornerstone of ESA’s Cosmic Vision Programme, Bepi-Colombo is a joint project between ESA and the Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA). One of the two spacecrafts that will approach the planet, a nadir pointing satellite, will orbit the planet in a low eccentricity orbit carrying a high resolution camera which will provide detailed images of the planet’s surface.
The experiment will help to determine the gravity field of Mercury through the estimation of Mercury obliquity and libration amplitude by analyzing image pairs relative to the same region and taken at different epochs by identifying common features in the images. To this purpose, it is necessary to optimize the simulator developed to generate synthetic images of Mercury’s surface to develop new image registration methods and test and validate the matching methods previously developed in the Computer Vision Group.

Please note that the full description may be available in the national language since some job boards have their own publication policy. Thank you for your understanding!
