Design, synthesis and characterization of fluorine-functionalized theranostics for anti-cancer treatment

This research project will focus on the development of fluorine-functionalized nanosystems as novel diagnostic and therapeutic tools for the anti-cancer treatment, with particular interest on melanoma. The success of this research will produce hybrid materials able to simultaneously behave as MRI contrast agents and targeted nanocarriers to deliver drugs into the tumor cells. The project will involve the synthesis of metal nanoparticles and their functionalization with fluorinated agents. It is also envisaged the development of novel synthetic procedures to make core-shell fluorine-functionalized nanoparticles stable in physiological conditions.
