The general objective of the study consists in optimizing the management of the durum wheat grown in a Mediterranean environment, in order to improve its productivity (both in terms of quantity and quality) and, at the same time, to safeguard the natural resources. Therefore, particular attention will be given to those factors that are able to positively influence the resources (nutrients, water) use efficiency of the crop and, consequently, to allow a decrease of auxiliary inputs, an improvement of soil fertility, and a reduction of soil erosion. In particular, the research will evaluate the effects of the adoption of some conservative tillage techniques (reduced tillage, no tillage), in comparison with the “conventional” tillage method (moldboard plowing + shallow harrowing) on wheat productivity and on its nitrogen use efficiency
