X linked agammaglobulinemia is a primary immunodeficiency characterized by an early block of B cell development due to mutation of the Btk gene. The immunological pattern of these patients is characterized by inability to produce immunoblobulin as a result of the absence of circulating B cells; consequently they suffer from severe and recurrent infections preventable by regular immunoblobulin substitution therapy. However they suffer from infections even during substitution therapy suggesting that btk may influence the biological function of other cells. Our preliminary data suggest that also dendritic cells may be impaired in Btk deficient patients and this topic will be investigated in this research project
