The project will focus on technological transfer and industrial innovation solutions for distributed software supports (middleware) and applications/services in the large arena currently called “Smart Cities”. More specifically, on the one hand, the project will investigate, prototype, and perform in-the-field validations of the maturity status of middleware technologies for the crowdsensing of data and context metadata originated by large-scale urban environments. These huge amounts of data call for relevant processing, storage, and persistence management capabilities, capable of adapting and tuning themselves in response to load variations (elasticity and scalability). On the other hand, we will primarily consider some specific application domains: participatory collaborative tasks; interworking with widespread and industrial applications of social networking; large-scale monitoring of environmental indicators and of citizens’ health/wellness.
