h1. Fundamental Mechanisms of Sleep and Anaesthesia

We are taking a systems neuroscience approach towards understanding how natural sleep is initiated and regulated, and to what extent sedative and anaesthetic drugs act on the natural pathways of sleep and arousal. We use mice that have specific neuronal pathways genetically modified (using either conventional genetic engineering or targeted viral transduction) to investigate the neuronal networks involved in sleep and drug-induced sedation. ...
