The main objective of the research program is to reconstruct the thermal evolution of the main stratigraphic-structural units of the Sila Greca (north-eastern Calabria) and provide new quantitative constraints for defining a geodynamic evolutionary model for the Calabria-Peloritani Arc. The research will focus on the sedimentary and low-grade metamorphic successions of the north-eastern Calabria fold-and-thrust belt, from the Mesozoic successions of the Longobucco and Caloveto Groups, to the post-Alpine-convergence and pre-Apenninic-deformation deposits belonging to the Paludi Formation and to the Miocene deposits that seal the Apenninic deformation phase.
A multidisciplinary strategy will be applied to the study area to create one-dimensional thermal models adopting software applications (e.g., Basin Mod 1D, HeFTy) that jointly elaborate data from stratigraphic-structural, paleothermal, and thermochronological databases.
