The goal of the STREP MATTERWAVE project is to make ultrasensitive matter-interferometry available in compact and portable devices. The proposed matter-wave interferometer is based on ultracold bosonic atoms trapped in highly controllable magnetic potential landscapes created near an atom chip surface. Such device has the potential to induce a step change in the sensitivity with which acceleration and rotation can be measured and the expected impact extends far beyond basic physical research. The role of the CNR Unit is to analyze at theoretical level the properties of matter-wave interferometers based on atom chips: this position is in particular devoted to the study of the sensitivity of ultracold interferometers by: i) analyzing the trapping potentials available in the setups of the experimetnal Units; ii) studying the bosonic dynamics at Gross-Pitaevskii level; iii) working on determining the effect of a finite temperature.
