Temporal and spatial analysis of rural and agroforestry productions is pursued. The production dynamics of the rural sector are strategic for Italian economy. Global changes (both climatic and land-use changes) and international, sometimes fraudulent, market competition, can cause relevant disturbances on the productive chains. Proper databases can aid in monitoring the environmental context in relation to the qualitative and geographic characteristics of agro-food productions. Primary target is the traceability of Italian agro-food chains, taking into account their spatial and temporal variability. Knowledge based decisions can support and endorse any valuable agro-food chain, decreasing the vulnerability of important socio-ecological systems.
