Getter materials capture traces of chemical species (e.g. H2, O2, CO, CO2, H2O, NH3) through extremely fast kinetics. They bind tightly these species so that their equilibrium pressure is extremely low. The research work consists in a feasibility study of active getter systems i.e. systems based on UV or Visible photoactivated oxides able to trap and degrade the traces of gases. In particular systems based on nanocrystalline titanium oxide dispersed in a highly porous and radiation transparent ceramic matrix will be studied for trapping and reducing CO2. Titanium dioxide will be also functionalized with photostable organic photoactivators in order to enhance the getter activity in the visible range
