Marie Curie Actions funded fellowship INFIERI "INtelligent Fast Interconnected and Efficient Devices for Frontier Exploitation in Research and Industry" MARIE-CURIE FP7-PEOPLE-2012-INT, 317446

Please note that the job is no longer active!

INFIERI is an inter-disciplinary initiative to train young physicists and engineers in the new domain of intelligent devices and tools for cutting-edge applications in Astrophysics, Particle and Medical Physics and Telecom. These fields must handle high data rates often from distributed sources, requesting on-site data reduction, fast data transfer to a high capacity tier, to perform high level analysis, easy to visualize or interpret. Data sources are often not directly accessible, or in unfriendly environments and very close or dispersed in space. Even if different in size, they need very similar treatment of the information. Three specific examples are considered: CMS tracking (LHC), PET and large terrestrial telescope arrays. The scientific goals of these specific cases motivate the INFIERI technological challenges: advanced CMOS technologies, 3D-interconnect, Silicon Photonics and Optical Wireless Communications, Massive parallel computing, advanced algorithms and test bench.

Eligibility criteria

The network as a whole undertakes to provide a minimum of 498 person-months of Early Stage and Experienced Researchers whose appointment will be financed by the INFIERI contract, a Marie-Curie Action ITN

Quantitative progress on this, with reference to the table contained in Part C and in conformance with relevant contractual provisions, will be regularly monitored at the consortium level.

The partners are taking the responsibility that the ESR, enrolled as PhD students in their place, will be financed until the completion of their PhD.

PhD in France, Italy and Spain are 3 years long, while they are 4 years long in Netherlands, Portugal and UK.

Selection process

Selection of candidates:
Every qualifying person will have a university education in the field of interest for the specific job. The host institution is in charge of clearly state the scientific job description together with the required key skills and selection criteria. Eligible applicants will submit their applications to the recruitment office of the local Network participant, and should send their CV and three letters of recommendation in due time. Positions for the ESR are requested to be hired in compliance with the individual institution’s rules for PhD recruitment, that vary from one Country to another. In the case where exams are requested, the selection criteria should be clearly stated; vice- versa, the Network qualifying skills and selection criteria should be clearly stated in the PhD advertisement posting. Following screening of the applications, applicants will undergo a rigorous selection based on quality and matching the scientific and technological profiles with the job specifications. Assessment will be based on discerning the best candidate through individual colloquia, CV and the letters of presentation, evaluating the academic qualification, experience, achievements, pro-activeness, English language knowledge, capacity to work in teams and mobility. The board of selectors will include the local Network participant, and two members of the EC, of which one being the WP coordinator.

Equal opportunity: The Network will pursue a Equal Opportunity policy, addressing not only gender balance, but also broader issues, such as handicapped researchers, life-work balance, culture diversity and family obligations. Diversity will be monitored and statistics will be published annually. In order to minimize gender bias, each selection board should have adequate balance of women and men. Special attention is paid in choosing gender balance among the speakers for training lectures and seminars, as well as relevant roles in committees.
