The specific objective of the research project is to select strains of microalgae with high production of molecules that can be used as dietary supplements such as carotenoids and omega-3 and to optimize the growth of these strains in photobioreactor. Several algal species have been reported as producing omega-3, in particular EPA and DHA, such as Chlorella, Pavlova, Nannocloropsis and Isocrysis. The aim of the project is therefore to identify the species and strains that have increased production of omega-3 in conditions of light and temperature suitable for local production. Object of study will be also strains of Hematococcus pluvialis, known for the production of high amounts of carotenoids. The research projcet aims to improve the production of biomass from photobioreactors through selection and genetic improvement od strains of microalgae.

The competition will be carried out by an evaluation of titles and examination by means of an interview.
To better plan and organise their stay in a foreign European country, researchers and their families can also benefit of the free and personalised assistance offered by the EURAXESS Services Centres, a network of more than 200 centres located in 40 different European countries.
