Monitoring of small-to-medium sized avalanches activity represents a crucial parameter to compare predictions and real effects. However, at present natural avalanche activity is mainly based on field observations, which have a limited range and are possible only during the daylight.
The present research has the following objectives: 1) Infrasonic analysis of the existing data in order to build a statistical model for infrasound propagation within the target area, which take into account topographical and meteorological effects. 2) Development and calibration of algorithms for real-time infrasonic signal identification and source location. 3) Combined, meteo-nivometric and infrasonic, data analysis of ground-truth avalanches (provided by the AWSAV) in order to verify the feasibility of a model of avalanche infrasound radiation
Deep knowledge of infrasonic array data acquisition, processing and interpretation are requested.
