Retinal neurodegeneration: neuroprotective efficacy induced by active molecules locally or systemically release, functional, cellular and molecular aspects.

Please note that the job is no longer active!

Our main goal is to preserve vision in degenerating retinas as long as possible by reducing neural loss and maintaining normal retinal functions. This has long been a goal in RP (retinitis pigmentosa) and AMD (age related macular degeneration) research, but it is still not achieved. In retinal degeneration loss of vision has two recognized causes. One cause is the death of photoreceptors; this is not reversible. The second cause is underperformance of surviving photoreceptors and their subsequent loss. There is a third cause that needs to be investigated: the dysfunction and probably rewiring of the inner retinal circuitry.

This project aims at understanding if and how it is possible to ameliorate or reverse neurodegenerative processes using neuroprotective strategies

Please note that the full description may be available in the national language since some job boards have their own publication policy. Thank you for your understanding!
