The project is focused on the development of innovative tools for selective breeding, based on the use of SNP DNA chips, in order to perform the genetic evaluation of breeding candidates for meat quality and traits related to boar taint. We will make use of 9K DNA chips (9,000 SNP) for the genome analysis of individuals of Gorzagri genetic lines, in order to identify associations between these polymorphisms and the most important meat quality traits, fat deposition, and the content of molecular components associated to boar taint development in fat samples of intact heavy pigs. DNA will be collected from tissue samples of intact males of Goland lines and from preserved tissue samples of past animals, to reach the optimal sample size (400 individuals).
