The question of how works of art should be integrated into the local setting and landscape is of fundamental importance in deciding the location. The work of art, in this case bridges and viaducts, is considered a vital component in modelling the landscape, but is often without a precise architectural design, which has meant that until know the sites where they are integrated are drastically changed, especially due to the massive building of bridges and viaducts over the last forty years. However, the current infrastructures need constant maintenance work, and that, together with the growing and indispensible concern for the landscape, can be an opportunity to partially redesign them so they better integrate into their surroundings. Considerations regarding redesigning previous constructions could be well worth reflection when designing new projects.
