In recent years, the continued commitment of scientific research turned towards the acquisition of technologies applied to the improvement of quality of life. A significant aspect concerns the development of technologies that allow simultaneous in situ detection of multiple parameters to monitor the water quality. The optical sensors, since their first applications, represented an interesting field of research for the undeniable advantages of each compared to the corresponding microelectronic sensors. The development of technology of photonic crystals or plasmonic structures or of the slot waveguides, has made possible the design and manufacture of innovative optical sensors, characterized by high selectivity, sensitivity and integration on a chip.
