The aim of this PhD project at the Department of Biology, University of Southern Denmark is to perform an integrative examination of the role of nitric oxide and its metabolites when fish adapt to severe oxygen shortage and salinity change. Various techniques will be employed, counting chemi-luminescence detection of nitric oxide metabolites, PCR and immunohistochemistry on nitric oxide synthases and epithelial ion transporters, as well as proteomics on NO-protein adducts.
