How to measure and value freedom of choice? Operationilizing Sen's capability approach with a gender perspective.

Please note that the job is no longer active!

Amartya Sen denotes what people are free to do or be as their capabilities, and what they actually do as their functionings. Measuring capabilities is challenging because it is difficult to know what possibilities individuals had when making their choices. In this project, we apply a new, innovative methodology to measure capabilities in a gender perspective. The main objectives of the project are first to develop the methodology of random scale models and then to quantify and evaluate capabilities. First, the capability of bodily integrity will be analyzed by looking at the freedom of movement of women together with violence against women. Based on the experiences from this first intermediate goal, the project analyzes then women’s capability of political participation and men’s capability of involvement in care work.

Please note that the full description may be available in the national language since some job boards have their own publication policy. Thank you for your understanding!
