Identification of antineuronal antibodies in sera of pediatric patients with Tourette's syndrome and obsessive-compulsive disorders: their involvement in exacerbations of the disease

The primary aim of this multi-national European study funded by the European Commission seventh Framework programme (FP7) is to examine the role of Group A beta-haemolytic streptococcal (GAS) infections in conjunction with a possible genetic predisposition and immunological factors in the pathogenesis of Tourette syndrome (TS) and obsessive-compulsive symptoms. This study will examine, through longitudinal prospective evaluations, microbiological, genetic, immunological, and animal model work, several aspects of this possible relationship.
