Climate change scenario for the evaluation of the management of the multi-purpose multi-reservoir Red-Thai Binh system.

Please note that the job is no longer active!

In the Red-Thai Binh river basin (China and Viet Nam) conflicts among water issues such as agriculture, environment protection and power generation, are becoming more and more serious, especially in dry seasons. These conflicts are expected to be worsen in the future due to climate change. At present, inefficiencies in coordination, regulation and maintenance of large-scale reservoirs resulted in frequent droughts, severe loss of agricultural production and environment degradation. A more effective management in the Red-Thai Binh river basin under the future hydro-climatic conditions is thus needed. The main purpose of the research is the definition of scenarios describing the future temporal evolution of hydro-meteorological variables, as well as the characterization of the associated uncertainty. These scenarios will be used in order to compare the historical management policy with Pareto efficient operating policies designed through multi-objective optimization.
