Recent researches have pointed out weaknesses of many commercial cryptographic devices (smartcards, cryptographic tokens, HSMs, ...). These vulnerabilities allows an attacker to extract cryptographic keys used to protect secret data, to authenticate, to get cash from ATM machines. Moreover, it is becoming more and more frequent to hear about hackers breaking into systems and stealing passwords, credit cards and personal data.
The research will focus on the above topics along the following lines:
1. Analysis of the communication between computer and cryptographic devices;
2. Automatic tools and techniques for modelling and analysing the communication between computer and devices;
3. Advanced access control systems and their application in the industrial setting.
