Ph.D. is an academic qualification, often requiring some degree of collaboration with the socio-economic world. It appears necessary to rethink the university as a complex organization to be repositioned, in order to become more aware of the necessity to effectively communicate with external structures. The interaction involves the breaking of the research- knowledge-work linear model and of potential hierarches, such as research-industry, academia– professions. Innovation requires suitable environments, where cross-fertilization of ideas can take place, both finalization of the research projects of graduate students and exposure of scientists, engineers and managers from the industry.
