Automatic analysis of image sequences in Computed Tomography to assess tumour heterogeneity through voxel-wise perfusion studies

Please note that the job is no longer active!

The project aims at realizing a software system to assess tumour heterogeneity through the automatic analysis of CT image sequences for perfusion analysis. Recent studies points out how the haematic perfusion of the target organ, after contrast medium administration, can provide meaningful index values correlated to the angiogenesis degree, meanwhile highlighting heterogeneity tumour properties, this allowing to develop more suitable target therapies while assessing their effectiveness. The most relevant open problem is the difficulty to validate the computed perfusion parameters. In this project, proper pixel-based error indexes will be conceived based on Time Concentration Curves, representing the input data to perfusion analysis, and to use them to study tumour heterogeneity based on the reliability of voxel-based tissue perfusion indexes. The effectiveness of the developed algorithm is validated by a team of expert radiologists on lesions referred to a set of selected patients.
