The research aims to investigate innovative technological systems for curtain walls in collaboration with a world leader in the field, Permasteelisa.
The most widely used material for curtain walls is still glass. However, the interaction occurred in recent years between architecture and other production sectors (aerospace, chemicals, etc.) has highlighted the possibility of using alternative materials.
Therefore the research wants to explore new solutions and new materials in the field of architectural curtain walls, able to replace the glass maintaining or increasing the general performances. It is particularly interesting:
- a more sustainable life cycle;
- possibility of re-use and re-cycling;
- light materials.
Innovative materials, especially polymers such as polycarbonate, the EFTE, PTFE, PMMA can already be found in architectural applications
