The research is part of a larger project to study local Italian communities in the early Middle Ages, (funded by PRIN 2010-11). This research has as its objective to collect a complete file of the oldest written sources of the history of Venice, in close connection with the archaeological sources. In the foreground of the research are mainly the documentary sources, among which of special importance are the oldest placita. The relationship with the archaeological sources is also important, because the study of Venice as a community at the time of its origins will result in the scientific preparation of an exhibition, in which written sources and archaeological shall compose the general framework of reconstruction
