Investigating the diagnostic and prognostic role of mitochondrial genotyping in gynecological malignancies

Please note that the job is no longer active!

The main objective of this project is to clarify the role of mitochondria in the progression of
endometrial (EC) and ovarian cancer (OC). To this purpose, the candidate will perform:
· a functional characterization in vivo of the mechanisms of hormonal regulation
in EC, which will shed light on their impact on the alteration of mitochondrial biogenesis;
· a thorough investigation on the occurrence of mitochondrial alterations in OC in order to
configure their framework within progression of this tumor.
Finding a correlation between mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) mutations and low grade
gynecological carcinomas will allow for a potential new molecular diagnostic tool, useful in cases
where tumors have a high degree of heterogeneity, a feature of endometrial and ovarian cancer that
often hinders the certainty of diagnosis.

Please note that the full description may be available in the national language since some job boards have their own publication policy. Thank you for your understanding!
