the field of transparent polymeric nanocomposites with tunable optical properties has grown considerably in the last few years. A lot of effort was devoted to make compatible inorganic nanoparticles, endowed with hydrophilic surfaces, with hydrophobic polymers. However less care has been employed in the control of the size and shape of nanoparticles, typically using extremely small sized particles well below Rayleigh's scattering limits. In any case no attention has been paid to the actual shape of the nanoparticles used. Thus, the here proposed project is aimed at the characterization of the optical properties of nanocomposites containing nanoparticles with regular shapes and monodisperse dimensions ranging from 10 to 100 nm. In fact nanoparticles endowed with different morphology (cubes, rods, tetrapods,..) will be synthetized either by colloidal and solvothermal routes. The nanoparticles will be surface modified and used to fabricate large scale (plates) nanocomposites.
