The program will evaluate the action of natural compounds on cancer cells with a characterization of the apoptotic effects, in a possibly tumor-selective manner. The experimental approach needs a wide knowledge of the mechanisms of apoptosis and flow cytometric techniques (and also other techniques) for the evaluation of cell death and for the distinction of the different types of programmed cell death. The program also should allow the characterization of the molecular mechanisms that underlie the identified effects.
