Killing and Letting Die within Biomedical Ethics: Any Morally Relevant Differences

Please note that the job is no longer active!

The research project should:

provdie a historical-conceptual framework of the killing/letting die distinction, constantly present within the history of moral philosophy;

focus on the contemporary bioethical debate (consequentilism, doctrine of the double effect, principlism);

examine other distinctions that could enrich the debate on this topic, such as the distinctions between action and omission, intended and foreseen effects, causal and moral responsibility, moral and legal responsibility, proportional and disproportional treatments;

outline an ethical normative theory that preserves a not absolute distinction between killing and letting die;

verify whether the normative theory is able to provide normative criteria for the moral experience in general and, in particular, for the clinical context as regards the decision-making process on end-of-life issues (euthanasia, withholding of treatments, refusal and renunciation of medicale treatments)

Please note that the full description may be available in the national language since some job boards have their own publication policy. Thank you for your understanding!
