A STUDY OF THE MAIN SCRIPTS USED IN SOUTH INDIA TO WRITE SANSKRIT

Please note that the job is no longer active!

This research aims at the realization of the first paleographic study of the main scripts used in South India to write Sanskrit, i.e.: Grantha (‘Grantha Tamil’), Telugu, Kannada, and Arya-eluttu (‘Grantha Malayalam’). The study will focus on the handwritten form of the scripts and will be based not on computer generated glyphs but on real writing specimens as they are found in manuscripts.
All the graphemes, ligatures and clusters used in each script will be collected, culling them from high-definition digital pictures taken from manuscripts of known date and provenance: such extensive data, properly organized, will reveal diachronic developments and geographical differences of the scripts, that—in turn—will prove useful for dating and locating other manuscripts.

Please note that the full description may be available in the national language since some job boards have their own publication policy. Thank you for your understanding!
